As part of an effort to educate the general public about issues of importance to children, Youth OUTLOUD! has been established to offer youth (ages 25 and under) a voice in mainstream media. Modeled after a syndicated news service, Youth OUTLOUD! offers weekly youth-generated print stories, television packages and radio programming.

Youth OUTLOUD! offers 5-10 youth-generated print stories each week to subscribers. The media pays a subscription fee thus make the program self-funding and sustainable. All fees collected are reinvested into Youth OUTLOUD! to ensure the highest quality news and features available in the world. A similar service will be provided for television and radio soon.

A coalition of media professionals has been assembled to advise and develop Youth OUTLOUD! into a viable and credible media force.

Currently, youth worldwide are utilizing the media to advance their own communities. The 1999 Oslo Challenge called for all organizations to promote the use of major media for youth to express their views. Worldwide, more than 500 organizations have accepted this challenge.

The next logical step was to systematize this process and enable youth from all over the world to learn of others who share their views, which is why Youth OUTLOUD! was formed.

In order to do this effectively, Youth OUTLOUD! has created several components:

  • DEVELOP RELIABLE, VERIFIABLE AND CONSISTENT SOURCES OF YOUTH-PRODUCED MEDIA WORLDWIDE: Youth OUTLOUD! works with many existing youth media organizations to identify the best of best to insure a steady flow of compelling, youth-generated materials.

  • REPORTERS ON THE GROUND: Youth OUTLOUD! has individual youth reporters who work with Youth OUTLOUD! editors to tell the stories of real life in their communities as it happens. These youth reporters are in countries throughout the world and provide timely perspectives of major events and insight into today's issues facing young people.

  • CREATING THE ASSURANCE OF FINANCIAL RESOURCES TO SUSTAIN YOUTH OUTLOUD! : Through a variety of sources, Youth OUTLOUD! seeks donations, gifts and partnerships from organizations with common goals. Youth OUTLOUD! works in an efficient manner as to keep overhead low, and form strategic partnerships that allow for budget relief for many fixed costs to enable the network to operate without the need for unnecessary cash expenditures.
